Architecture and Urban Planning
There has been always a struggle between the roles of the urban planners and the architects, mostly because in the beginning of times there was no difference between them. Nowadays, we have two separated fields that work hand by hand in making our living spaces and cities more comfortable and suitable to our needs. The Urban Planners create and organize the settings and landscapes of our cities and regions; they work in a large scale. On the other hand Architects use a smaller scale, their working in the creation of buildings and living spaces. Both of these professions have the purpose of structuring the environment we live in, in such a way that our needs and desires are fulfilled. Urban Planners tend to think in a longer-term point of view contrary to architects that tend to see things in a here and now kind of terms. Even when maybe architects and urban planners work in different scales and take care of different points when building something, both of them have the same purpose at the end of the day: making our life more pleasant and organized.
Caracas was a very well-designed city when it was originally designed, but in the middle of the twentieth century the Venezuelans had the need to move to the capital or other large cities to live. This caused a great shock for city planners who had the job of distributing the city, the pressure of the displacement of people caused the poor performance of architects and planners, and this reason gave some consequences. Nowadays exist the big displacement urban and different distributions in Caracas but there is not relationship between different areas.
